AFTERNOON Tea, a time for dainty sandwiches, delicate desserts and genteel conversation began with Anna, the Seventh Duchess of Bedford in the early 19th century England. Experiencing hunger during late afternoon, the Duchess ordered that tea and cakes be brought to her rooms. She, being a sociable and gracious person began to invite other ladies to partake of these delectable’s, thus the tradition of tea began. IN contrast high teas started generations ago as a working-class supper of leftovers of simple, but hearty food to be savored with the coveted Cuppa tea. Lighthearted conversation with family members around the table or cozy fire allowed one to review the HIGH LIGHTS of the day.
